Albertans have contacted 211 nearly 5500 times since March. 8th, 2020 related to COVID-19. 211’s hub partners, Canadian Mental Health Association – Edmonton Region and Distress Centre Calgary, more than 3300 contacts related to COVID-19 through their crisis services.

What do Albertans need right now?

Here are the top 10 needs of those who have contacted 211 related to COVID-19:

  2. Public Health
  3. Food
  4. Social Insurance Program
  5. Temporary Financial Assistance
  6. Public Assistance Programs
  7. Community Groups and Government/Administrative Offices
  8. Tax Organizations and Services
  9. Housing/Shelter
  10. Individual and Family Support Services

What needs aren’t being met in Alberta right now?

Sometimes, when someone contacts 211, we do not have an appropriate resource to connect them with. For example, there may be no program found to meet that person’s need, an existing program may be temporarily unavailable, the waiting list may be full, or the individual may not be able to afford an available service. When this happens, we call it an “unmet” need.
